if you want. This will help you get use to all the
equipment you've purchased and you'll also be able to figure
out what you forgot to buy. With the propane fire rings
that are now available you can even have a campfire in the
backyard.
You can teach the kids to set up the tent in the
backyard. If they are old enough you can show them how to
use some of the outdoor gear you purchased. By having a

of the real thing. Get you self a magazine on the stars
at the local new stand for the month you will be camping then
you can look at the stars with the family.
You can even listen to the different night sounds. Of

Plan the trip as a family camping trip. Besides
including the things you want to do make sure you include
the things the rest of the family want to do too. You
will have to plan your meals and then pick up your groceries
the day before you leave. Pack all the equipment in the
car or van the night before, and you'll be ready to head off on
the family adventure first thing in the morning.
Make sure you have all the gear and necessary cloths
bug spray etc. Use glow stick and their favorite blankets and
pillows to help get rid of any night time fears. If the
back yard camp out goes good the next trip will be the camping
spot.
The kids will help with the chores if you make a game of
it. Have contests to see who can gather the most kindling
for the campfire later that night, fastest camp clean up and
the fastest tent organization .
Take hikes along the trails and by the lake in
the morning in your town visit the information centers Get them
use to being out and about. Go on a flashlight scavenger
